Van Zandt County Emergency Services District #3 is a political subdivision of the State of Texas serving a large portion of Van Zandt County Texas as a taxing district to support emergency services, such as fire suppression and rescue services. The District is governed by a board of five commissioners who are appointed by the Van Zandt County Commisioners Court for a two-year term. They must be residents in the District.

Van Zandt County ESD #3 is funded by property taxes, which are based on appraisals of real and personal property such as single-family residential, multi-family residential, commercial and raw land.

Van Zandt County Emergency Services District 3 was created in 2013 by successful passage of an election as authorized by Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code and as ordered by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court. The election served to establish a geographical boundary with the authorization to establish a property tax rate not to exceed $0.10 per $100.00 assessed value.

We contract with South Van Zandt Volunteer Fire Department (SVZVFD) to provide fire protection services. SVZVFD maintains four stations strategically placed in the district that allows most homeowners a better ISO rating with their insurance.
